Successful sale and installation of property registry system

Fredericton, New Brunswick -- Service New Brunswick (SNB) and Unisys Canada Inc. today announced successful licensing agreements with the Government of the Northwest Territories and the Government of Nunavut for electronic Personal Property Registry Systems. The new computerized registry systems will support the Personal Property Security Acts (PPSA) of the two territories, replacing the current document registry that serves both territories from a single location at the Government of the Northwest Territories Legal Registries office.

The Northwest Territories PPRS and Nunavut PPRS are similar to the model adopted in Atlantic Canada, with modifications to support the legislation of each territory. Like the systems now in place in each of the Atlantic Provinces, the territories' services will be delivered through a shared infrastructure.

Under agreement with SNB, Unisys markets the PPRS software application, originally developed by SNB and subsequently modified by Unisys for electronic delivery using ACOL, an electronic access service designed and operated by Unisys in partnership with the four Atlantic provinces.

This single-point-of-access service provides the capability to register and search notices of security interests in multiple provinces and territories. The Northwest Territories and Nunavut will be the fifth and sixth jurisdictions to provide registry database access using a common technology solution through a shared infrastructure. The new systems become operational on May 7, concurrent with the proclamation of each territory's PPSA legislation.

Under the licensing agreement with Unisys, New Brunswick has realised five licensing fees, over the term of the agreement.
