Browser-based PPRS Login Instructions

This bulletin is an excerpt from a report provided to ACOL Desktop Software users at the launch of Browser-based PPRS. Confidential and sensitive data has been removed.

Welcome to the browser-based PPRS, the most significant upgrade to the ACOL Personal Property Registry System since its introduction in 1997. This bulletin will provide instructions on how to access browser-based PPRS and will provide important notes about using Browser-based PPRS functions.

Instructions for Accessing Browser-based PPRS

  1. To confirm that your computer supports browser-based PPRS, you will require:

    1. A supported Internet browser: Internet Explorer (IE) 5.5 or higher OR Netscape Navigator 6.0 or higher.

    2. That your browser supports 128-bit encryption.

    3. That your browser is configured to enable JavaScript.

    4. A portable document format (PDF) reader such as Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or higher.

  2. Click on the following URL hyperlink:  https://acol-prod1.acol.ca/pprs/index.do?lang=en.

  3. You will be at the Personal Property Registry System User Logon page. If you do not see a logon page, please re-confirm your computer configuration and that you are connected to the Internet.

    1. Enter your User ID. This is the same User ID that you use to logon to ACOL Desktop Software.

    2. Enter your browser-based PPRS temporary password. This password is different from your ACOL Desktop Software password.

    3. If you do not yet have your PPRS temporary password, do the following:

      1. If you are a current, active PPRS user, go to ACOL Desktop Software Retrieve Reports and locate the report named "Browser-based PPRS Login Instructions". That report will contain your new temporary password.

      2. If you are not able to retrieve the report, the Prime Contact for your ACOL client account will be able to change your password for you.

      3. If your Prime Contact cannot help you or if you are new to PPRS, contact the ACOL Customer Support Centre at 1-888-624-2265 for assistance.

  4. At the Change Password page you will be prompted to specify a new password. As part of browser-based PPRS, new password criteria are being introduced. As a minimum, an acceptable password:

    1. Must be at least 8 characters in length.

    2. Must be no more than 32 characters in length.

    3. Must include at least 1 upper case letter.

    4. Must include at least 1 lower case letter.

    5. Must include at least 1 numeric character.

    Please remember that managing your password is your responsibility. You should not share your password with other people nor should you write down your password in a location accessible to other people. In the event that you forget your password, there are users within your organization who are authorized to change your password to a new temporary password.

  5. Once you have changed your temporary password to your new password you will now have access to browser-based PPRS. The current version of browser-based PPRS offers PPRS Search options, Retrieve Reports, and ACOL Client Services functionality. Please confirm that all the menu options are available.

  6. VERY IMPORTANT: Update your user information including your Report Language preference. The Report Language setting defaults to English, so if you want reports to be created in French you must change this setting.

  7. From the browser-based PPRS Main Menu page,select User Information and update the information that is not accurate and/or missing. The following values may now be updated by all users:

    1. Report Language: This field indicates the language to be used in all reports created within jurisdictions that support both English and French reports. Note that this value is only used for reports created using browser-based PPRS and will only apply to reports from bilingual provinces and territories.

    2. Name

    3. User Title

    4. E-mail Address: Please enter your email address in this field.

    5. Phone Number

    6. Extension

    Depending upon your authority level, you may also be able to update the status and authority of users. If these last two items require updating and you are unable to update these values, please contact your account administrator.

  8. Please note that if and when you choose to perform a search, the Search Result report will be in PDF format and you will need a portable document format reader such as Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the report. Additional help and support for this can be viewed by clicking on the Technical Requirements link at the bottom of the page. Once a Search Result Report has been created, a direct link to the reports will be provided. You will not be required to access your reports using the Retrieve Reports functionality.

  9. The Retrieve Reports menu option allows you to retrieve all reports that have been created by you within the browser-based PPRS system and that have not been deleted and/or expired. Note that selection criteria and sorting options are now available.

  10. For added security, we recommend that you change your password on a regular basis. Use the Change Password menu option to change your password.

  11. For further help and support, please use the links provided at the top and bottom of each screen. If you are still unable to access browser-based PPRS, please call our Client Support Centre at 1-888-624-ACOL (2265).
